2020 release. Innovators refashion, reup, and recharge the genre in order to usher it forward. Gold-certified Michigan quartet I Prevail not only redefine themselves on their sophomore offering, Trauma [Fearless Records], but they also redefine the genre for tomorrow's generation. Flipping the script, the group-Brian Burkheiser [clean vocals], Eric Vanlerberghe [harsh vocals], Steve Menoian [lead guitar], and Dylan Bowman [rhythm guitar]-uplift rock to a plateau where soundscapes can unpredictably toss and turn between heavy metal, alternative, hip-hop, and electronic moods without warning, boundaries, or rules. Meanwhile, the lyrics team with confessional emotionality as if ripped from the pages of a secret diary.
John Petrucci’s Terminal Velocity marks the first solo album by the world-renowned Dream Theater guitarist to be released since 2005’s Suspended Animation. Written and produced by John Petrucci, the album sees the return of bassist Dave LaRue, who played on John’s debut solo album and subsequent G3 tours, as well as, an eagerly anticipated reunion with former Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy. The 9 songs on Terminal Velocity showcase John’s affinity for writing tightly-weaved guitar instrumental powerhouses that feature everything from monster riff breaks to passion-filled melodic themes and all-out shred extravaganzas. The album was recorded by James ‘Jimmy T’ Meslin and mixed and mastered by Andy Sneap. Terminal Velocity is available on all digital and streaming platforms and on CD and Vinyl.

Limited red colored vinyl LP pressing. As the world plummeted into the COVID-19 pandemic, the four members of Black Stone Cherry were nestled deep in the woods of Kentucky, scrambling to complete their seventh album. There, they could feel the disease closing in as they watched the news daily, and it became apparent the album they were finishing featured lyrics that were eerily prescient. The resulting 13-track record is broadly emotive, and anthemic. It was finished just before the global lockdown was imposed, and it's aptly titled, The Human Condition. Self-produced and tracked in bassist Jon Lawhon's recording facility, Monocle Studios, in March 2020, the band went in with four songs, wrote new songs, and recorded some beloved unreleased favorites. For the first time, the group opted to not record basics live and instead meticulously multitracked. Each member endured grueling sessions to ensure the collective studio mindset of achieving "epic performances." The results are stunning - the grooves feel organic, the riffs are mountainous, the performances are urgent, and the hooks shine through gloriously.

To mark 2020's Piano Day and as an acknowledgement to these unprecedented circumstances we find ourselves in, Nils Frahm surprised the world with a collection of eight solo piano pieces, titled Empty, made available digitally in March. Now the highly anticipated physical editions are set for release via Erased Tapes in October. Conceived of just before Nils broke his thumb and composed the similarly intimate solo piano album Screws, Empty is a soothing vessel of eight simple and serene pieces originally recorded as the music to a short art film he shot with his friend and film director Benoît Toulemonde. Drifting through emotions from the stark and sobering opener "First Defeat," to the gently euphoric "No Step On Wing" and the contemplative but hopeful closer "Black Notes," with it's poignant minute of silence, Empty is a comforting score for these turbulent times.

“Ace Of Spades”—the title track of Motörhead’s 1980 iconic, game changing album isn’t just one of the greatest hard rock songs ever written—it has truly become a lifestyle anthem for several generations of rockers, metalheads, punks, bikers, athletes, rebels, outcasts, and freethinkers all around the world. Few songs in modern history can instantly ignite the adrenaline of music fans the way the song’s opening dirty bass riff, and drum roll can. From zero to 100 mph in a matter of seconds. That speaker-destroying opening riff is unstoppable. And the song altered the course of hard rock…forever.
Upon its release in 1980, the Ace Of Spades album was nothing short of a gamechanger for all forms of hard rock. Like lightning in a bottle, it perfectly captured everything great about hard rock, heavy metal, and punk, amped it all up to 11, and came racing out of the gates at what felt like a million miles an hour. Pushing at every musical boundary, nothing was harder, nothing was faster, and certainly nothing was louder.
The Ace Of Spades album; brand new half speed master created from the original tapes. Pressed on 180g heavyweight vinyl as a triple album in a 20 page bookpack and deluxe 2CD mediabook. Includes a live album of a newly unearthed, previously unreleased concert from the Ace Up Your Sleeve tour.

He encouraged us to dig a little deeper into our souls, to capture the magic of each song. Vinyl LP pressing. With a unique sound founded on a persuasive mix of American and African jazz, Armitage Road, originally released in 1970, was the only studio recording released by South Africa's Heshoo Beshoo Group. As a highly prized collector's item, a re-issue and re-appraisal of this lost gem from the apartheid era has been long overdue. Heshoo Beshoo loosely translates from the inter-tribal lingo of the townships as either 'going by force', or 'moving with force'. That is certainly the case here. With it's undeniably funky element Armitage Road combines graceful and moving playing with invention and passion, and it does not disappoint from start to finish.
2 CDS / 45 Tracks - including 17 Previously Unavailable Recordings by The Archies. Ron Dante was without question one of the hottest singers on the 1969 pop hit parade, sailing in the same commercial stratosphere as the Beatles, Rolling Stones, and 5th Dimension. As the lead singer of the Archies, he had the year's biggest selling song with the #1 Hit "Sugar Sugar." Ron's golden voice was coveted by every producer in Manhattan and he was the "go to" guy at Don Kirschner's legendary Brill Building. Even Madison Avenue called as Dante made national TV jingles for American Airlines, Coca-Cola, McDonalds, Tang, and Gillette. As a Broadway producer he had hits with "Ain't Misbehavin" and "Children Of A Lessor God." In a career high, Ron sold over 60 million records as the producer and background singer of the first nine Barry Manilow albums.
Gorgeous picture disc vinyl pressing of this 1978 live album - also known as Iron Fist & The Hordes From Hell - recorded at the legendary Roundhouse in London!
A highly collectible piece, the picture disc features a photo of the classic Motörhead line-up with "Fast" Eddie Clarke and Phil "Philthy Animal" Taylor!
It's been four years since Sweatbox Dynasty, the fourth solo LP from Pennsylvanian experimentalist Tobacco. In that time, Tom Fec's project has toured with Nine Inch Nails, provided the theme song to HBO series Silicon Valley, and teamed with Aesop Rock for a collaborative album as Malibu Ken. He now returns to Ghostly International for Hot Wet & Sassy, a full-length album oozing with his most playful and approachable songs to date, which, conversely, express notions of antilove, self-hate, and disappointment in others.
Pop impulses have always surged beneath the surface of his sound - blown-out bass, analog synths, drum machines, and Fec's unmistakable analog gurgle and hiss - here they've bubbled to the top. "I feel like it's the most I've been able to refine what I'm doing," says Fec. "For the past decade I've had this motherfxcker on my shoulder that makes me pick away at structure and melody. Purposely covering up moments because I can. That really came to a peak on Sweatbox. So I wanted the opposite this time. Write the songs without ripping them in half. I went from 'what would the Butthole Surfers do?' to 'what would Cyndi Lauper do?'" And what would Trent Reznor do? Fec found his answer straight from the source. Their collaborative track, "Babysitter," fuses their voices into one deranged presence: "I'm the new babysitter," they alert, before pivoting into a menacingly saccharine bridge. The track tumbles on a tom fill, then a punishing synth line rips into a cacophony of drums and feedback like a lawnmower gnawing through the living room carpet. "This was new for me, but I wanted to write a song that was everything I am and have been, and then like one notch further. Trent was the notch further," adds Fec. The collaboration is a work of alchemy seamlessly blending Tobacco's trademarks with Reznor's industrial rust and sonic gore. Downcast, sincere, woozy, "Jinmenken" might be the closest Fec has come to a ballad. "Maybe you can find me down the line," his vocoded delivery bounces along the beat. "It's me trying to write a Jets song," says Fec. Album opener "Centaur Skin" presents the stylistic concoction that has been the Tobacco MO from the beginning, crossing dreamy melodic shimmer with the sinister tones and slime. This has become easier to digest, but also far more potent. A motorik beat steadies the track's galloping arpeggio, acting as a springboard for Fec's dark ruminations as well as an uncharacteristically crystalline synth solo. "It's my feel good self hate anthem. Don't worry, I'm good. It was fun to write." Tobacco hasn't been reinvented, but it has been refined and distilled. Brighter, sharper, and far more dangerous because of it. Hot Wet & Sassy is practically staring at the sun without shades and feeling those corneas roast. Everything looks good as your vision fades. The pop-forward structures exert their undeniable hooks with baneful precision, pulling listeners into their clutches; once there, sugary melody rewards submission.
The Great Dismal, NOTHING’s new full-length album explores existentialist themes of isolation, extinction, and human behavior in the face of 2020’s vast wasteland. Closing in on the band’s ten-year mark, frontman Domenic Palermo finds himself stringing together songs of misanthropic tales of Philadelphia with a refined and refreshed take on NOTHING's classic sound. “The Great Dismal refers to a swamp, a brilliant natural trap where survival is custom fit to its inhabitants,” Palermo states. “The nature of its beautiful, but taxing environment and harsh conditions can’t ever really be shaken or forgotten too easily.” The ever progressive NOTHING keeps true to their chaotic outlook on life, keeping a keen eye to avoid repetition. With a radical cast of talented contributors such as harpist Mary Lattimore, classical musician Shelley Weiss, and singer/songwriter/producer Alex G., The Great Dismal showcases yet another essential side of the band’s trademark American Post-Shoegaze.
Written and recorded in the earliest days of the Covid-19 pandemic and Black Lives Matter/American uprising, this album represents a new direction for Austin, yet retains his distinctive voice and hyperliterate writing style. Contained are ten songs that serve as direct commentary regarding the ongoing global situation, isolation, fear and the indomitable spirit required to stand up against systemic racism and fascism, in a world spiraling out of control.
The Magic of Mantovani features remasters of famed Anglo-Italian conductor Mantovani's original orchestral stereo recordings, set with brand new vocals for the first time from "outstanding" (Guardian) tenor Joseph Calleja. Highlights include selections from West Side Story, Rodgers and Hammerstein classics, and beloved mid-century standards, including a special guest appearance by Grammy-winning American soprano Renee Fleming in a performance of "Somewhere."
Following up their well-received 2018 album 'Used To Yesterday,' LA's Smokecreens are back with the excellent new record 'A Strange Dream.' Produced by David Kilgour from NZ legends The Clean, 'A Strange Dream' shows a band at the peak of it's talents, ably blending influences like The Go-Betweens, UK DIY indie and pop, and of course Flying Nun into a compelling, compulsive album. From the jaunty pop of opener 'Fork In The Road' to the rocking 'Streets of Despair' and the dreamy 'On and On' this is a record that clearly shows a band that knows it's way around a timeless guitar riff and aching pop melody. Gorgeous ballads like 'Nighttime Skies' and 'I Love Only You' add a new depth to Smokescreens' sound, and the cover of Scrotum Poles' DIY classic 'Pick The Cats Eyes Out' is perfect, and perfectly fun. A future classic.

Official Mr Bongo Hip Hop Reissue. Nas has had a career of generally consistent excellence, punctuated with a few lulls. He's an incredibly skilled rapper sometimes accused of having a tin ear when it comes to choosing beats - especially on albums (and the entirety of 'Illmatic' aside, obviously). 'Made You Look' was a shot in the arm for Nas at a time when he'd shed some of his core, street fanbase. After the unfocussed 'Nastradamus' and 'I Am...' albums he'd had a return to some kind of form with 'Stillmatic', but many felt he came off second best in the ensuing battle with Jay-Z. This single, a club and street classic almost from the moment it dropped, is exactly what he needed to reconnect with his fans and to show he could still throw down. Lyrically, it's hardcore bragging 101, delivered with panache and numerous quotables that themselves would go on to be sampled. Key to it all, however, is that beat. Salaam Remi was no stranger to resurrections, having almost single-handedly turned The Fugees from forgettable also-rans to major-players. The beat here is deceptively simple, one of hundreds of records to chop up Incredible Bongo Band's 'Apache' but doing so in a way that felt instantly fresh. Nearly 20 years later it still has the power to get a stationary crowd moving, an empty dancefloor to fill, a still head to nod. This original version has never been on 7" before. It's presented with full artwork.
It's been almost 20 years since Midnight Oil unveiled a new longform release. That wait will finally be over on October 30 when their seven song mini-album, THE MAKARRATA PROJECT collaborators features a wide cross section of prominent First Nations' artists; from Jessica Mauboy, Alice Skye and Tasman Keith through established talents such as Leah Flanagan and Troy Cassar-Daley to revered elders Kev Carmody, Sammy Butcher and Frank Yamma.
Grammy Award-winner Tori Kelly releases her highly anticipated holiday album `A Tori Kelly Christmas', executive produced by and featuring Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, on October 30, 2020. This album is timeless and includes two original festive anthems as well as a selection of beloved classics like “Let It Snow” (a special duet with Babyface).
Lady A has amassed record-breaking success, ushering in more than 18 million album units and 34 million tracks sold with over 2 billion digital streams. The trio has nine #1 hits to their name including the 9X PLATINUM "Need You Now." They have earned ACM and CMA "Vocal Group of the Year" trophies 3 years in a row and countless other honors including GRAMMY, Billboard Music, and People's Choice Awards. ON THIS WINTER'S NIGHT (DELUXE) is Lady A's classic holiday album plus new 4 bonus tracks.
The 2nd complete show to be issued from Keith Jarrett's 2016 European tour, following the acclaimed Munich 2016 concert. This double album documents the pianist's solo performance at Budapest's Bela Bart¢k National Concert Hall. Jarrett, whose roots go back to Hungary, saw it as a homecoming; the context inspired much creative improvisation. His later concerts are comprised of independent movements, each a marvel of spontaneous resourcefulness and creative energy.
For over two decades, Atmosphere has maintained a course of rigorous output, releasing over two dozen studio albums, EP's and collaborative side projects in as many years. In that time, the venerated duo have built a legacy out of bringing honesty, humility and vulnerability to the forefront of their music, continually challenging themselves to evolve without straying too far from their roots. Slug has proven masterful at storytelling and writing compelling narratives, leaving a trail of his own influence while paying homage to the rappers and songwriters that shaped him. Ant has skillfully molded the soundtracks with inspiration from soul, funk, rock, reggae, and the wizardry of hip-hop's pioneering producers, creating his own trademark sounds while providing the pulse for songs about life, love, stress and setbacks. At it's essence, Atmosphere has been a musical shepherd, and with each new album comes a new journey as they guide generations of listeners through this thing called life.
Much like everything else in 2020 though, Atmosphere's new album, The Day Before Halloween, is something of a detour from the anticipated path. Cutting loose and eschewing their established norms, Slug and Ant have delivered the anti-pop answer to the content and compositions of previous albums. Over razor-sharp drums and distorted synths, The Day Before Halloween explores the life of a visual artist living in an antiquated surveillance state. It's menacing. It's murky. It's George Orwell meets Keith Haring at a video arcade, on New Year's Day, 1985. If you've entertained any theories that we've slipped into an alternate reality, you may find further evidence in this dark and brooding release of future's past.
